DESIGN ETHOS

Crafted with meticulous care and a passion for unhurried living, each piece tells a story of tradition and holds reverence to the beauty found in everyday objects.

Hello!

Hi, my name’s Boaz and I’m the maker behind Suen Ceramics. With a passion for craft, play and iteration, I’ve been a fledgling ceramicist for the last 3 years. As a first generation Chinese-Australian, my work is heavily influenced by Eastern tableware—objects that bring about harmony, calm and a sense of community to homes and spaces.

At the heart of my practice lies a passion for form and detail but also on objects that fit seamlessly into the folds of life. Each piece is crafted to strike a harmonious balance between intricate design and ergonomic utility. Whether it's a bowl, a set of cups, or a vase, every piece is crafted in the hopes of making a house, a home—pieces to spend a lifetime with and to enjoy in the company of loved ones.

Central to the ethos of Suen Ceramics is the exploration of earthy and tonal glazes. I experiment with glazes and glazing techniques to achieve a palette that reflects the natural world, evoking a sense of tranquility and warmth. Crafted with meticulous care and a passion for unhurried living, each piece tells a story of tradition and holds a reverence to the beauty found in everyday objects.

That’s enough waffle from me for now, thank you for stopping by!

FAQs

  • Yes. All my wares are hand made by me from a humble lump of clay at a community studio in Sydney, Australia.

  • At this moment in time, no. I ship domestically Australia wide and accept local pickups in Sydney 2000.

  • Absolutely! Get in touch via Instagram or through the contact form here and I’ll see what I can do for you.

  • Technically, yes. All my pieces are vitrified to Cone 8 (1263 C) and glazed, so they’re dishwasher safe and microwave safe. However, due to the delicate nature of ceramic, especially those pieces made to be quite thin, I’d recommend washing by hand.
